The N9 form is the official Tenant’s Notice to End the Tenancy used in Ontario, Canada. It allows a tenant to formally notify their landlord that they intend to move out of a rental unit on a specific termination date, in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act.
The N9 must be completed by tenants who want to end their tenancy. It applies to most types of tenancies, including monthly, weekly, fixed-term, and certain special situations such as assignment refusals or care homes.
The completed N9 form is given directly to the landlord. It is not submitted to the Landlord and Tenant Board unless it is later required as part of a dispute or application.
The form includes the landlord’s name, tenant’s name(s), rental unit address, termination date, and the tenant’s signature and date. The termination date must meet legal notice requirements, such as 60 days’ notice for most monthly tenancies.
